Domestic vs International Shipping: Stock, Timelines and Duties
Short answer: a doll already in a US warehouse arrives in days, with no customs step and a simpler claim if something is wrong. A made-to-order doll from an overseas factory takes weeks, may involve import duty, and is usually non-returnable once production starts. Decide which purchase you are making before you compare prices.
Timelines sellers state
| Route | What sellers state | Treat it as |
|---|---|---|
| US warehouse stock | 2–5 or 3–7 business days, per retailer shipping pages | A typical claim, not a promise |
| European or regional warehouse, duties included | Express 2–5 business days, per one European storefront | That seller's claim for its warehouses |
| Made to order | 3–5 weeks of production before transit; one retailer table gives silicone 5–8 weeks and TPE 3–5 weeks | Production time only — add transit |
| Made to order, door to door | 6–10 weeks, stated by one dealer | One dealer's figure |
Any single number is an estimate for that seller and season. Ask for the production time and the transit time separately, in writing.
Duties: the money question
"Free shipping" does not mean "no duties". The deciding question is whether the price is delivered duty paid (DDP) — the seller pays any import duty — or whether you are the importer. When the seller is not DDP, one retailer guide put duty plus fees at roughly $100–$300 on a $2,000 purchase. That estimate was written before the 2025–2026 tariff changes, so treat it as a floor, not a quote.
What changed, from primary and legal sources:
- De minimis is suspended. CBP ended duty-free treatment for low-value shipments from all countries from 12:01 a.m. on 29 August 2025 (CBP CSMS #66065494). A full-size premium doll was always above the $800 threshold. The change matters most for parts, wigs, clothing and accessories ordered separately from abroad, which no longer arrive duty-free.
- It is still suspended. The Supreme Court held in Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump (20 February 2026) that IEEPA does not authorise tariffs, but that ruling did not disturb the de minimis suspension. The Court of International Trade upheld the suspension on 13 August 2026, and a statutory repeal takes effect on 1 July 2027 (Troutman Pepper Locke, 18 Aug 2026).
We publish no duty rate: rates depend on classification and origin and have changed repeatedly. Get the seller's DDP status, and who pays any carrier brokerage fee, in writing before paying.
Choosing between them
| US stock | Overseas made-to-order | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Days | Weeks to months |
| Customs | None for a domestic shipment | Possible duty and brokerage fees unless DDP |
| Configuration | Fixed: what is in stock | Exactly what you specify |
| Price | Sometimes higher | Sometimes the lowest headline price — before duty and freight are checked |
| If something is wrong | A domestic return or claim | Usually parts or a repair kit; returns rarely practical |
One retailer's terms put the cost of returning a failed delivery of a heavy item above $1,000, so confirm that your address can receive a carton of around 50 kg before you order.
Silence during the wait damages trust more than slowness itself in the owner reviews we read. Prefer sellers who commit to factory photos before dispatch and to tracking. Delivery privacy is covered in Discreet delivery, and what each warranty really covers in Sex doll warranties.
Questions to ask the seller
- Is this item in a US warehouse now, or made to order? Where does it ship from?
- Production time and transit time, separately
- Is the price delivered duty paid? If not, who pays the brokerage fee?
- Which carrier, and is a signature required?
- What happens, and who pays, if a delivery fails?
