Manufacturer Claims vs Evidence: A Field Guide to Marketing Language

This site's standing rule: every claim is labelled by its evidence layer — manufacturer claim, retailer table, or owner report — and never silently promoted to fact. Use the same discipline when you read any listing, including ours.

Claim-by-claim

Claim you will seeEvidence status in our research
'Medical-grade' / 'food-grade' siliconeObserved on retailer pages for multiple brands; no certificate, standard number or test body found on any recorded page. unsupported marketing language — not thereby proven false, but entitled to zero weight until a certificate appears.
Lifespan years ('lasts 10+ years')Mutually inconsistent ranges across guides for the same materials. A range-of-claims, never a fact.
'Permanent makeup'The retailer's own FAQ concedes the coating lightens/thins with rubbing over time. Read as longer-lasting.
Body painting durabilityRetailer care text: ~a year for display/photo use, potentially days under friction-heavy use (reported).
'AI learns and gets smarter the more you talk'A product-page claim with no independent test in any source we found. unknown. See Emerging technology and limitations.
Struck-through 'MSRP' discountsDo not represent a real market price; sale prices across dealers roughly agree once currency is considered in the Gynoid case examined. Compare configured street prices only.
'Free' bundled featuresRotate monthly at some brands — free in one retailer's promo, +$99/+$150 à la carte at another for the same features. Date-stamp every 'free'.
Weight-reduction claimsReal engineering, inconsistently based — same body spanning ~6 kg by basis. Verify basis, not the headline.

The three questions that deflate most claims

  1. 'Shown where — certificate, standard, or test?' 2. 'Measured how, on which version, with what included?' 3. 'Who else, independent of the seller, reports this?' If a page — again, including ours — cannot answer for a claim, discount the claim, not just the page. Our comparison method is set out in How to compare quality and applied in ZELEX vs Starpery.

How this guide was written

From the seller and manufacturer listings behind our catalog records, retailer policy pages and owner accounts we reviewed, checked 13 Oct 2026. Where a fact could not be checked, the guide says so rather than filling the gap. See our methodology, editorial policy and who we are. Spotted an error? Tell us.
